As a website owner, one topic you’ll no doubt come across sooner than later, if you haven’t already, is guest blogging.

Guest blogging is a popular marketing strategy in the internet marketing world today and you’ll no doubt hear about it if you’re looking for ways to market your website; this article will be giving you an idea of what guest blogging is and why you should care about.

What is Guest Blogging?

Guest blogging is the process of writing content for another website with the hope of getting something in exchange; this “something” could be traffic, subscribers, links or even exposure for your brand.

In most cases, guest blogging is done by a less-known website on another blog with the aim of getting exposure or some other benefit from that blog.

Here’s a screenshot that shows an example of a guest post:

The above image shows the author bio from the following guest post on BlogHerald.com; with this post, everything else is the same as a post that would have been written by the blog owners but two things are different:

  • It is from a “guest author”
  • There’s a bio below the post that introduces the writer of the post; in other words, the guest benefits.

Why Should Website Owners Care?

While there’s a lot of buzz around guest blogging right now, it’s very important to ask yourself if it’s worth considering. Here are some major benefits of guest blogging:

5 Benefits of Guest Blogging

Traffic: Traffic is the currency of the web; without traffic, you can’t make money and guest blogging is one of the best ways to get traffic to your website.

Subscribers: One of the benefits of guest blogging is that it can help you build your website subscriber base; in a recent post here on why you should start email marketing, we talked about the importance of email marketing. Something we didn’t talk about is how to grow your subscriber base and one of the ways you can do this is by guest blogging.

In your bio, you can introduce your offer and build your email list/subscriber base in the process.

Backlinks: It’s becoming increasingly difficult to rank well in the search engines and ordinary links from directories or social bookmarking sites aren’t as effective as they used to be; authoritative contextual links are now powerful than ever and one of the best ways to get these kinds of links is through guest blogging. You can get the links through your bio or inside the articles and links from guest blogging are very effective.

Brand Exposure: Guest blogging is also very good for brand exposure; when everybody starts to see your name and your brand come up in guest posts on several popular blogs in your niche, you get some nice brand exposure that’ll help your business down the road.

In business, nothing can be more powerful than getting people to know, like and trust you and guest blogging is one of the most effective ways to do this.

Connection: Apart from getting traffic, subscribers or backlinks, you might have a long-term plan and are probably guest blogging to build relationships with other bloggers; when you have relationships with other bloggers, it won’t be difficult to get them to write about you, promote your products and offers and tweet your articles in the future. Guest blogging can be a great way to get them to know and like you.

I’m completely new to running a blog but I do write in my journal everyday. I’d like to start a blog so I will be
able to share my personal experience and thoughts online.
Please let me know if you have any recommendations
or tips for new aspiring bloggers. Thankyou!
